IBFA UK® Competition Rules & Regulations
These rules apply to all athletes entering and competing at IBFA UK® events. By submitting an entry and paying the relevant entry fee, athletes confirm that they have read, understood and agreed to these rules.
1. Amateur Federation & WPC Professional Pathway
IBFA UK® is an open amateur bodybuilding and fitness federation. Athletes from other federations are welcome to compete with us, with the exception of athletes who currently hold IFBB Professional status.
IBFA UK® provides athletes with a pathway from amateur competition into professional bodybuilding through the WPC – World Professional Circuit.
Selected IBFA UK® competitions will operate as WPC Pro Qualifiers, where eligible athletes may be awarded WPC Pro Cards and earn the opportunity to compete professionally on the World Professional Circuit.
IBFA UK® remains the amateur competition federation, while WPC operates as the professional circuit.
2. Official Photography, Filming & Audience Conduct
IBFA UK® and its authorised event photographers reserve the right to photograph and film athletes during competitions. By entering and competing at an IBFA UK® event, athletes consent to the publication and promotional use of photographs and video footage taken at the event.
Professional photography equipment is not permitted at IBFA UK® events without prior written authorisation. Anyone using unauthorised professional photography equipment may be asked to stop or leave the venue.
Spectators are welcome to take photographs and videos using mobile phones from their seats, provided this does not obstruct the view or enjoyment of other spectators. No person may stand or position themselves in front of the front row, VIP guests, sponsors or official photographers.
3. Minimum Age
The minimum age to compete at an IBFA UK® event is 16 years old.
Athletes under the age of 18 may be required to provide appropriate parental or guardian consent.
4. Competition Classes
The classes offered may vary between competitions and are determined by the individual event promoter in consultation with IBFA UK®.
A wide range of competition classes will be available throughout the season. Athletes are responsible for checking the classes available at each event and selecting competitions appropriate to their age, height and category.
5. Athlete Responsibility
It is the sole responsibility of every athlete to read, understand and comply with all IBFA UK® competition rules, class criteria, registration requirements and event instructions.
Failure to familiarise yourself with the rules will not be accepted as grounds for a refund, transfer or exemption from the rules.
6. Media Consent & Publication
By competing at an IBFA UK® event, athletes acknowledge and agree that their name, competition results, photographs and video footage may be published by IBFA UK®, WPC and authorised media partners across websites, social media platforms, promotional materials and relevant bodybuilding media publications.
7. Competition Format
All IBFA UK® competitions operate as straight run-through shows.
There is no separate prejudging session. Athletes will compete, be judged and receive their placings, awards and any relevant invitations or qualifications as part of the continuous show format.
8. Competing in Multiple Classes
Athletes may enter a maximum of two classes, where eligible. For example, an athlete may compete in an age or Masters category and an appropriate height or open category.
Where an athlete is considered borderline between two suitable categories, the Head Judge may, at their sole discretion, allow the athlete to compete in an additional or alternative class.
The Head Judge’s decision on class suitability and eligibility is final.
9. Entry Fees, Refunds & Transfers
All entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Entries cannot be transferred to:
- another athlete;
- another competition;
- another IBFA UK® promoter’s event.
The only exception to the refund policy is where the specific competition entered is cancelled by the organiser.
Athletes who become unable to compete due to personal circumstances, including illness, injury, work commitments, travel difficulties or changes of plan, are not entitled to a refund or transfer of their entry.
10. Qualification for the IBFA UK® Britain Finals
Athletes wishing to compete at the IBFA UK® Britain Finals must first qualify through an official IBFA UK® qualifying event.
Qualification is compulsory. Athletes who have not qualified through an approved qualifying competition will not be permitted to enter the Britain Finals.
11. IBFA UK® and the WPC Professional Circuit
IBFA UK® is the Independent Bodybuilding Fitness Association UK and operates as an amateur bodybuilding and fitness federation.
IBFA UK® is not affiliated with any other organisation using the IBFA initials or IBFA acronym.
The professional pathway for eligible IBFA UK® athletes is the WPC – World Professional Circuit. Athletes may earn WPC Pro Cards at designated qualifying events, providing a pathway from amateur competition with IBFA UK® into professional competition on the WPC circuit.
12. First Timer Qualification for the Britain Finals
Athletes who qualify for the Britain Finals through a First Timer category will progress to and compete in the Novice category at the Britain Finals.
This progression reflects the athlete’s advancement from their first competitive appearance into the next appropriate level of competition.
